Creating As-Built BIM Models with the Matterport Pro3 Camera

The Matterport Pro3 Camera has transformed the process of capturing existing buildings for architectural and BIM workflows. Equipped with a high-precision LiDAR sensor, the Pro3 enables the rapid creation of accurate digital twins that can be used to generate detailed As-Built BIM models for architects, engineers, and property professionals.

The Pro3 offers faster capture times, greater accuracy (up to ±20 mm), and the ability to scan both indoor and outdoor environments in a wide range of lighting conditions—from dimly lit interiors to full sunlight.

Below, we outline our process for creating As-Built Revit 3D models from Matterport digital twin surveys.

Our Process

1. Capture the Property

Using the Matterport Pro3 Camera, we scan the entire property to create a comprehensive digital twin. For most residential projects, both the interior and exterior can be captured in approximately two hours.

2. Create the Digital Twin

The scan data is uploaded to Matterport Cloud, where a fully immersive digital twin of the property is generated, including both indoor and outdoor spaces.

3. Generate BIM Data

Matterport produces BIM deliverables as an add-on service.

4. Develop the Revit Model

Our experienced BIM engineers import the survey and BIM data into Autodesk Revit to create a detailed As-Built 3D model. Deliverables also include RVT, IFC, DWG, and PDF files.

5. Deliver to the Design Team

We provide the completed Revit model and drawing package to the architect, who can use the files directly in Revit, Archicad, or other BIM-compatible software to accelerate the design and documentation process.

Benefits for Architects

The workflow offers significant advantages throughout the design and planning process:

  • Highly efficient and cost-effective compared to traditional measured surveys and manual modelling workflows.

  • Minimal site time required, with a single surveyor able to complete the capture process in one visit.

  • Reduced need for repeat site visits, improving project coordination and reducing travel costs.

  • The digital twin enhances collaboration, allowing architects, engineers, clients, and contractors to remotely explore and review the existing building at any time.

  • Rapid delivery of BIM models, often within days rather than weeks, enabling architects to begin design work immediately.

  • Substantial time and cost savings throughout the project lifecycle.

This workflow relies on the latest Matterport Pro3 camera technology combined with extensive BIM expertise. Daly Productions is uniquely positioned to provide the complete service, rom digital twin capture, through to the delivery of accurate As-Built Revit models: quickly, professionally, and cost-effectively.
